2018 ram 3500

We made the switch last week, traded our 2012 GMC 3500HD for a 2018 RAM 3500. I have always been a die hard GM fan and our GMC was a great truck, but in my research, the RAM had a lot to offer and was able to get a great deal on a RAM, so we ordered exactly what we wanted back in August.
I removed the "Chevy / Ford" CAM Module from the Titan Brake Controller wiring and did a test pull Saturday morning.
All went well, the RAM sits a little higher than the GMC did but only an inch or so with the "Alternate Tow Height" engaged.
Went to a empty parking lot and checked all my height measurements and all looks good, have about 7 inches clearance between truck bed and trailer. Measured front and rear frame heights on trailer and it is level within an inch or so, I am good to go.
Did not pull on the interstate yet but did pull about 10 miles down highway US 27 south which allowed me to get up to 65 mph. The RAM is quite different from the GMC as far as towing, lot lower engine RPMs towing and one thing I like is the exhaust brake stays engaged to a much lower speed when stopping than the GMC did.
The "Puck" mount Curt hitch setup was very quiet with no clunking starting and stopping like I always had with the "Rail" mount hitch setup. The ride was awesome with the RAMs "Air Assist Rear Suspension". Looking forward to some interstate travel in a couple of weeks on I-10 and I-75 to see how the RAM rides on Bridge entry and exits and interstate highway joints..
The start off the line at a traffic light with an incline is much easier with the RAM than the GMC due to the Transmission gearing and the 4:10 axle ratio. The GMC did ok but it did work when starting from a stand still on an incline, the RAM starts from a stand still on an incline with ease. Sure glad I took your advice and went with the 4:10 axle ratio, I was on the fence about that choice, but after yesterdays test tow it confirmed I made the right choice.
Overall very happy with the RAM and the choice we made, been taking a lot of ribbing from die hard GM friends and family about switching from GMC to a Dodge, but all in fun. They just wish they had one !!!

I agree with everything you said 100%. I was always a GM owner until about 15 years ago when I got my first Dodge/Ram and have never looked back. We have the B&W puck mount for ours. Love the 4:10 and the sound the engine brake makes with a load.

Rob,

congratulations on the new truck. Over the past 3 years I've had a Ford, Chevy and a Ram. I think they're all good trucks. So far I've only had the ram for 10 months and around 26000 miles but really like it. That little inline 6 has a cool factor.
