Rosey,
My comments about 55-60 was referring to my recent trip to Florida and back...

Seems to me someone needs to take a deep breath and count to 1000. I failed to see where anyone was being openly criticized. Take a chill pill brother, we all love and respect your post. I see no reason for the snap.

Must be a lot of hang overs from the News Years parties.......People seem to be on edge.
There's a lot of different opinions on speeds, weights and trucks. They're all just opinions.

I see Brads point , after my recent round trip drive from PA to FL I have seen my share of almost pile ups because of someone driving 55 or 60 in the left lane of a 70 mph road.. They are clueless as to what is behind them...
I am SURE that is not what you meant by your original statement... Let's all just sit back and be thankful for the fact that we have each other to bounce ideas off..
If you leave this forum over that statement , it will be a big loss for you , as Brad and everyone on this forum has a ton of useful info to share ..!!

That's not the fault of those who choose to drive 55 or 60. The problem here is that most people are clueless as to what is going on ahead of the end of their hood. If folks would stop driving offensively like they are the only ones on the road and learn the meaning of defensive driving, everyone would be a lot more safer. JMHO.

I agree Guy! In the past they had signs posted that said "Be Courteous", well forget that anymore, now it should read "I'm first, get the hell out of my way".

I bought G614 tires so I didn't have the restriction of 65 mph associated with ST tires (among other reasons). There are times in the west when I drive 75. I respect those that drive 65, and I would appreciate the same respect when I courteously pass you. Our tax dollars paid for all that pavement so we could all get along - no shaking fists, no prayers, just maybe a flash of the headlights when I've cleared if you have a mind to - but don't feel obligated because I have you on camera.

When I had the Redwood, I had to get from point A to point B as fast as I could because we couldn't work while going down the road. On top of that, a few times we were putting in 750-800 mile days. For this reason, I had the truck and trailer set up to where I maintained at least 70-75 mph and going across some of the western states we'd maintain 75-80.
Now with the MH Ginny can work while I'm going down the road so we stay around 65 under most cases. On top of that, by the time we arrive Ginny has most of the work done so I can relax. I'm not sure how fast this coach will go. I did hold 80 for about 30 miles just to see how it would handle but it was short lived and I didn't see the need to continue or the budget to feed it.
Like the Redwood, this coach handles best when I travel with full water

Wow Dave, a 750 to 800 mile day, that is a long / hard day, especially with todays excellent roads.
The most we have traveled in a day is around to 550 to 600 miles and I felt like I had been in a boxing match when we arrived.

It's so much easier now and we try to only run around 400-500 miles a day. But now I still only get 8.5 mpg

We have only done a few trips with a 800 mile a day range and was not much fun but needed to get there quick. I do have to say that with our new truck and RW doing 800 miles is a much easier trip then with our previous MH which was not like Dave's and only in the $90K range and a gasser, was as Rob said... a boxing match and ready for bed!!!
We usually average around 70mph and find that is a good speed for us and truck works well. The MH was about the same but was governed at 80 so it would keep me out of trouble. I had no idea what happened the first time as it flat lined at 80 going down RT 4 in FL. Thought we had engine problems but luckily Char was sleeping until I finally figured out what was going on.

I'll bet you don't get tossed around quite as much now.

You're right Rob.....
I have to be careful because after a long day of being bounced around......I get feeling a little punchy due to all the bouncing. Those longer days are harder on me than they used to be and that's one of the reasons we went with the MH.
The whole trick to being safe is recognizing your own limitations. For years I drove big trucks and ran 3 log books......I just can't run like I used to, due in part to my health.

NOPE.....I don't hardly feel the bumps.
Under most conditions..... motor home is good for the journey and the 5th wheel as good for the destination. But with that said......this is the most comfortable RV I've every slept in.
But I wouldn't want to have this MH if I was sitting still for a couple of months.

Most MH spend too much time and effort fighting wind. That's why I went with the tag axle and so far it's worked well. We're starting to talk about another one that would have the Independent Front Suspension (IFS). We'll probably wait until we sell the house which I'm guessing will be in a few years.
As for the limit on speed.....I don't know about this MH. I had it up to 80 for about 30 miles and then slowed it back down. It seemed like it still had a ways to go but Ginny was about to hit me with something large and hard so I slowed down. There's really no need to drive this MH that fast.

I was the same way in our last MH we would travel at about 65-70 most of the time it would do 80+ but I was not comfortable at that speed. Pulling the RW I am comfortable at 70-75. MH was great if you were moving a lot but it you are parked for long periods I like the 5er much better. But we all have our own preference.

speed and mileage
I must confess I have no problem with my truck towing at 75. But the traffic and road conditions and how fast I really need to get there determines my speed. If I am not in a hurry i prefer to tow at about 68. It seems that my truck performs at the greatest MPG at that speed. Plus it is a little safer and I arrive not feeling as tired. I tow most days around 500-600 miles depending on need. But love those days when I tow around 350-400 miles. I have no problem with anyone who passes me just all long as they don't pass me then pull in front of me and slow down.

Who remembers when the speed limit was 55 across this great country?

I'm starting to take more 2 lane roads now. I realize due to the cross roads and such that they are more dangerous but if we aren't in a hurry we'll go 2 lane. It does add a lot of time though.
