I agree Dave, that is probably discussed the least between the Dealer and buyer, and I bet most buyers have no real idea how much their stuff weighs. I know I was shocked to learn we carried over 2,000 lbs of personal stuff.
I did notice that when Redwood upgraded our GVWR and sent new stickers, I was shocked there were so many of the yellow ones that called out the cargo capacity - one on the left front, one at the bottom of the screen door (good eye catcher), and a third but I don't remember where it went, maybe on the inside of the cargo door or inside cupboard. You couldn't spend any time loading it without running into one of those yellow sticker.

More cost effective just to get in a newer truck if it's in your budget. You will be much happier in the long run!
We purchased our RW without owning a truck. Had it delivered and then we went truck shopping.

Well after some great advice from you all we went out and got a different TV. Here it is, I went across the cat scales with it and made sure I was within the right weights for tires and truck. It's a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 DRW, now the next thing I want to do is put some air bags on it to make the ride a little better.

You won't regret the Dually decision. Difference in towing is no comparison, not to mention peace of mind with weight. Airbags help ride and "chucking" tremendously.

Scaling 2012 36 RE,
a truck upgrade soon and a certified cat scale stop is on my list @ pilot when i mobilyze again
first i have never done this Weighed 36RE camper im sure to freak out when i get the weight
question can i get the proper procedures on all this?
as i have never done this aside from just driving onto scale should i disconnect and weigh every thing separately then the combo hitched together this will be a project by myself but is a must do
the air bags helped a lot firestone airbags and B&W hitch work great together want a newer truck with built air bags i think $$$$
santa might be a bit late on this gig till i get more down payment money

Karl you weigh everything hooked up and then go back and weigh truck separately you can the deduct the truck weight from your overall weight of both for your trailer weight. Subtract trailer axle weight from trailer weight to get your pin weight

I would add the airbags afterwards to the truck. Have talked to 2 owners of the newer Rams with the factory setup and both said they preferred the AirLift with the onboard compressor and remote they had before.
Do the scale just like Shane said. When I did mine, the truck stop is about 4 miles from here. I took whole rig over, weighed it, brought coach back home and then a couple days later when we were both in truck and tank full stopped again and weighed truck only.

I did it almost the same, I disconnected from the RV in the Pilot parking lot then filled the truck with fuel. With my wife and dog aboard in the truck I weighted the truck, told them I was going to hook up to the RV and come back across the scales again. Went and hooked up to the RV and went across the scales a second time. Went inside and paid $13, $11 for the first weight and $2 for a re-weight. To get the pin weight I subtracted the rear axle weight of the truck by itself from the rear axle weight with the RV connected. I think I did that right. With this drw truck my weights were Truck only Steer Axle 4900 lb, Drive Axle 3620 lb Gross 6520 lb. Then with the RV attached Steer Axle 4860 lb, Drive Axle 6580 lb, Trailer Axle 12200 lb and Gross 23640 lb. So Drive Axle of 6580 with RV - 3620 without RV = 2960 lb Pin Weight. Truck with the RV Pin weight is Steer Axle 4840 + Drive Axle 6580 = 11420 lb and my Truck GVWR is 12200 lb so I am under the limit of the truck. That is how I figured it all out, if I'm wrong here please let me know.
