You guys are making reference to the FX4 package check with the actual specs- the last time I read them all the FX4 option got you was skid plates and Rancho shocks along with the FX4 decals on the fenders.

17", 18" or 20" wheels will not effect the overall drive ratio, it's the outside tire diameter that matters. Most are within an inch or two which is really minor on these. You'll notice that a lot of high weight rated tires fit on larger wheels, this is due to a smaller, stiffer sidewall which can support more weight.
Also I regards to engaging 4wd before you need it; this saying is to prevent being stuck, not because you can't engage 4wd. If your stuck while in 2wd and go to engage 4wd when you spin the tires 4wd will still engage with no problems. You just need wheel spin and some slack in the T-case.

It's the same as the Z71 that GM offers. The locking differential, better shocks, transmission cooler, tow package and a fancy decal. My 2011 f350 also had the louvered differential covers. I'm sure there's some other things in there too.

Exactly...which is why all you guys cnsidering the 450 should plan on 35s for your new truck.

Funny thing is on my '13 F350 SRW, 35" tires are just over 1/2" taller than the stock tires with the 20" rim option. Right now I'm running a 295/65/20 Toyo ATII which is 35.1" tall. Stock was right at 34.5" if I remember correctly.

Were your stock 20" the Michelin's ?
How long did your stock tires last as ours seem to be evaporating
and that's with only 20% towing of the 20k miles between our last 5er and the RW.

They were probably the same as yours. I replaced them with only about 2500 miles on them with aftermarket wheels and tires. The load rating was increased dramatically with the aftermarket setup. So in short, not sure how long they would wear. My aftermarket tires (Toyo ATII's) have a 50k mileage warranty though.

Well Dave.........
At the speeds you are driving, you only get half the miles because the rubber is reaching melting point!!!

Just don't say that around my wife. I usually wait until she starts to nap and then I pick up some speed.

Once you retire you can slow down and see what you passed up all these years.

I mentioned to Ginny that there are some improvements in the 2015 F450. I think I have the perfect wife....her only question was "what color do you think we should get?" I guess we'll start shopping.

Your right Chuck I was but here is what I found:
The medium duty truck usually has 1000 ft lbs of torque yet the truck itself weighs nearly twice as much as the pick up trucks. So you're dealing with more weight but not enough extra power to compensate. I can order a 450 hp truck but then I would have to pay 12% federal tax and add about 30k to the build price to boot.
The comfort and safety of the medium duty truck is outstanding but when it was all said and done I'd have about 185-200K invested and we're looking at other options.

That does sound good but if you talk to any body man he'll tell you that removing small dents like door dings is nearly imposable. My son is in the body business and he said all the "paint-less" dent tools don's work very well with aluminum. You have to either fill with body filler and repaint or buy new panels.
