Flex Air 21k Pin Box

Hopefully Ken will get on here with his input. He just bought the Flex Air.

http://lci1.com/flex-air-pin-box

My current Trail Air is 18K and if I add a trailer will need to upgrade the pin box. In speaking with the designer, he stated all I need to do is order the lower jaw for a 21k Flex Air and it will bolt right on. The upper part of the pin box is exactly the same on all Trail Air & Flex Air boxes. Will call LCI tomorrow.

Be interested to know what that upgrade cost is as we get the banging sometimes with our current Trail Air Pin Box.
Also, not having to lube 9 grease fittings on the pin box would be great !!!!

Ron,
I should be able to give it a good test. I'll be heading home a week from tomorrow. There were a couple of sections of I5 near Lost Hills that the wash board on the road was so bad, I couldn't talk. I'll have about 800 miles on it and will report back.

I suspect that since all I have now is the rotoflex, I will hopefully notice a big improvement.

Hmmm...
after lubing all the zerks once - I've not had anymore banging...

Rob,
Are you sure you greased all 9 enough and with heavy enough grease ? This is what I used.

My assumption is that it came dry from the factory,
but once I put almost a tube and a half of heavy duty axle grease, it's worked like it should...

I've lubed all of my zerks and now I still get the bang and grease all over the hitch.

I'd love to find another alternative. Ive even thought about reinstalling the original pin box that I took off and find an air-ride hitch.

Yep, I pumped a lot of grease in all the fittings and the banging is now minimal, sure seems like the rubber would be better than all that grease !!!

Was just looking at it since we move about every two weeks year round, the better the ride, the less my back aches when we arrive.

I have just the Roto flex and like it. I have virtually no chucking. I would like the air ride without the grease. The flex-air looks like just the thing I'd like.

Wonder if RW will switch to the FlexAir from the Tri-Glide?

Michelle & Ann,

Great question, I'll be the current inventory will have to be exhausted. I'll be interested to see what comes on your new rig. I followed your posts in the IS system in Alaska with great interest. What is interesting about the new lippert air bag system, is that you can increase air pressure on the heavier side, thus balancing the weight. Sales pitch for sure at this point but we shall see....

I think the actual Demco Glide is probably a great pin box since it's been around for a while, but I thing the Lippert/TrailAir knock-off missed the mark. Maybe the reason for the change, especially since they aren't even selling it to the general public anymore, only the FlexAir.
I might have to contact RW and see if I can get the FlexAir in place of the Tri-Glide. Looking at cost between the Roto-Flex, Tri-Glide, and FlexAir vs the upgrade/option price on the Tri-Glide there should be any difference in price. Just a question if I can get them to do it. If not I see about doing it later if reports sound good. Lippert Tech I was talking with recently thought the FlexAir would give an improved ride.

M&A
Did your tri-glide give you trouble?

Definitely agree that getting it through your order will save some bucks. Those pin boxes are expensive.

No real problem, but if you ever visit the Demco site and watch their video of how their Glide works, the Tri-Glide is close, but no cigar, as it doesn't set centered and does shift back and forth more than I would really like.
Last time at Mor/ryde I asked them when they were going to put an Air Bag on their's and was told not in the near future. The Mor/ryde in a great pin, it just need the addition of the air bag to take out the bounce, which looks like Lippert has done with the FlexAir.

Talked to Lippert today and initially they said they had the Flex Air lower jaw for the 18k but not 21k. They have sent blueprints to make sure of we are using the long jaw L05. They have not called back with pricing. The 18k Flex Air lower jaw pn#328493 will replace the 18k Trail Air L05 long lower jaw.

Heard from Lippert this a.m. They will not allow me to buy the lower jaw only even though they have a part# for it.

Yep, Dale Fenton was the one that told me the lower Jaws would interchange. New 21k Flex Air is $1280 installed at the show.

Flex Air 21k will be installed Monday. I still think those who have the 18k and want to try to get the lower jaw only it would be worth a try.
