Heavy Hauler

Thought I would post some pictures. Rick Olson, owner of Comfort Ride Hitch is also a master fabricator. The photos below are of his Volvo that he is building. He tows a 41' Momemtum toy hauler, about 21k lbs. the truck is being set up to carry a new Jeep Renegade on the deck. If you look, the hitch is in the very back of the bed. Bed is designed so the last 5' is double hinged and drops down hydraulically to facilitate the ramp and loading the Jeep. It is locked with a dump truck tailgate air lock mechanism.

To me, the remarkable part is that 2 weeks ago at Hershey he showed me pictures of just the frame extended- hadn't even started on th box and was still working out where he wanted everything.

Overall length with the coach on is 74'. I want one .........

That's a nice looking rig. Would definitely need a pull through site at that length

How can this hitch being located this far behind the rear axles handle the tongue weight of a heavy trailer with our pin weight ratings?

Think about the weights involved if it was full 53' length semi trailer like it was made to haul. Not sure of the pin weight on those but I bet it can be over 20,000 lbs. But by not having it over the axles, it does throw some extra torque into the equation based on the added length.

That's tandem axle will handle 25000 pin weight it should not be a problem with that light trailer

Rick and I talked about it at length and one of the things we discussed was the big Super C haulers like a Renegade that routinely pull 25000 lb "bumper pull trailers" with 5000 lb tongue weight. The hitch is in about the same position. I'm waiting to hear the difference towing whether the Jeep is on board or not. Thinking it will tow much better with the Jeep on.

John ~ you're probably right LOL. Truck has the new Bose Air Seats and also the Volvo has air ride cab and suspension with auto leveling.. Trailer has MOR Ryde IS 9k axles.

This thing is easier to drive and much more comfortable than my Dually. D13 Volvo engine 550 hp / 1400 torque and 8 spd iShift automatic.

WOW, got some grunt under that hood !

I thought the rv with 425 & 1250 out of a 6 cylinder does good work - this will go UP the mountains with the engine brake on

I like the "super C" motor homes for many reasons including the air seats and the cab of the truck but they lose the the basement and I can't get enough basement.
