K2011

WOULDN'T THE COST OF THOSE CHANGES STILL BE CHEAPER THAN $10K-$20K OR AT LEAST CHECKING OUT!

There is usually only 3K to 6K difference in price from thesrw versus the drw truck.

KR2011, all Im saying is if the trailer gets hauled from Indiana to Calif with only 60# of air in the tires, then you might already have a problem by the time it gets to the dealer.

You make a very good point, I had not thought about that scenario.

According to Andy (Rep) there is no problem with the Marathon tires, or at least the factory is not ready to admit there is.

The difference in price between a 1 ton SRW and a DRW is usually around $1k.

Rolls Royce, we added the washer/dryer and the gen at the dealership. It had already been prepped for them.

John317, yup they came in from RW with 60lbs in them. Glad we didn't have a blowout on the way home. Took the pancake compressor and brought them upto 80lbs. Believe that the dealership should have doubled checked for that, but they didn't. Can't say for certain, but it could be a reason for the Marathons blowing out.

Maybe before this happens you will find out you do have enough truck already.

The dealer is still trying to deal with me on my truck but to be honest I'm not too worried. I talked to his top ford tech (well known) and he said as a dealer he can't tell me what to do (he's a camper too) but as a camper he said the weekest link on these trucks are the tires and springs not the axles. I have 13,000 lbs of axles and 15000lbs of tires on my truck. He said to be sure not to overload the tires. The frame and springs I have are the exact set up as a dually so really the only place I'm short is the extra stability from the extra tires. And the 355 gears instead of the 370.As for the 355's he said these trucks are so over powered anyway that I shouldn't have any problems

He said if I was worried to get the dif. covers with thermo probes so I can be sure they're not getting too hot. He said the heat would be the tale tale sign of a problem. He also said to get the tires with monitors on them as well. He said he has several of his very close friends with trucks like mine pulling 18-19000 lbs for years without any problems.

According to him, at his camping group there was a guy with a big mouth bashing the SRW trucks until they took his to the scale and found out his was over weight too.

With all that said if the top salesman drops another $1300 I might make the change but if I do I'll only do it to keep the wife happy. I have about $63 in my truck plus accories and they are talking about giving me $46.

So why not try it first before taking a big $$$ hit on trade-in.

While I was at the factory I started talking with one of the delivery drivers. He was hooking up to a trailer just like the one I'm waiting for (which should have come off the line today). He was pulling it with a gas 3/4 ton chevy 6 foot bed. I asked him if he had any troubles towing the trailers with his truck and he just smiled. He said he pulls them all over the country and has never had an once of trouble and he doesn't have a slider.

Now keep in mind they are empty when he pulls them but I also have twice the truck. He asked me what truck I had and when I told him he said I wouldn't have any problems at all.

also look at going with synth oilfor your diff,if your truck does not call for it. like a 75w-140w. I run synth oil in my trans, after having it built for towing. doesn't break down like reg oil and last a lot longer.

Dave, we had the same question as we found a really great deal on a Dodge 2500 HD Megacab short bed Diesel. We called our prospective dealer and he stated that because of the way Redwood designed the front of the unit, curved in at the bottom, you can pull the Redwoods with a standard hitch in a 6 1/2 foot bed. The guys at Southern RV really know their stuff so I'm sure he's giving me the straight skinny.

You can pull with a short bed truck but the 2500 dodge is probably not rated to pull a redwood as they have a 16k + gross weight.
