Now that the bugs have worked out it's an excellent diesel, from what I have been told, right now the Trans is what is holding up power improvements, it seems that the new Ford Trans will handle the most power
Stronger than the Allison??? That's what they claim about the Power Choke!

Ya thats the word from the performance Trans guys I know. With the new Dodge Aisin Trans the old Alison could now be on the bottom. The performance guys say the Allison is the weak link in the engine power upgrades.
Don't shoot the messenger

Real men and women tow with a manual transmission in the mountains of East Tennessee. My wife and I originally come from the mountains of Northern California. So go ahead and talk about your automatic transmissions

I grew up in the Sierra Nevada Range around Donner pass I80. The range of mountains is much smaller however very steep and high elevations. My wife stills tows the RW and loves the manual transmission for towing. I feel very lucky because my wife enjoys traveling and is willing to split the driving/towing

Then I'm not a real man (or woman) cause I had enough shifting gears in performance cars & work trucks, now I let the truck do the work.
When they start replacing the Allison's in OTR trucks with whatever Ford is offering then the bragging can start!!

I spent little over 20 years all total with a gear shift in my hand. Everything from a twin stick 4x4, 13 speed Fuller and a simple 10 speed. Now I enjoy the ease of traveling with the Allison.

Oh my gosh - I am such a happy parent, it brings a tear to me one good eye.

After years of worry about my daughters choices in life driving Chevys, the family got together and met her in the driveway....

We surrounded her with all the people that love her the most, and showed her how Ford has been such a big part of our life, beginning with her Great Grandfather as a Parts Manager.

It took two grueling days of testimony from all of us, and of course a trip to the Colorado RV Show to show her just exactly what she is missing out on because she was driving a wimpy truck - and she finally broke down in tears and agreed to rehab! Within 24 hours she is back on track!! We love you daughter of mine!

We will take a rest, then Saturday I think we will work on that awful "Apple" habit she has.............

Eight pages and no one has had an eye poked out. Mods must be breathing a sigh of relief with every post.

It's good to see you Chebby guys have finally seen the error of your ways.

This has been fun. I always get a kick out of the truck wars. I worked 34 years for GM and that's all I've ever owned. Gotta remember who buttered my bread. I stay out of the fray because I have no experience with the "SOB".

What a great thread this has been. I must admit that after the real men and women jab I placed in motion, my next tow vehicle will have an automatic transmission in it. My DW and I argue about this all the time. I want the auto she wants to keep the manual transmission. I do all the backing though and this is where the automatic shines over the manual. In order for me to do tight very slow backing I have to place the transfer case in to Lo range, or the clutch takes a beating.

Tom, may not have anything to do with anything, but I used to always tow with a manual. In the 90s I was towing a 30 ft TT through Utah and the transmission welded itself into 5th gear. Had to tow it in and they almost didn't warranty it, as they started pulling out all kinds of foot notes on the brochures and the like that said the manuals were not recommended for towing.

I thought it was absurd, but at least back then they said the manual transmission were not anything like they used to be when they were heavy top loader types. In the end, it convinced me to go for the automatic after that.

PS - ya, it was as bowtie - aluminum transmission made overseas
