I have 71,000 miles on my 2011 Dodge RAM Laramie Crew Cab long bed. I used it for commuting my last two years of full time work. It averaged 14.5 to 16 mpg in part highway, part city driving.
In summer of 2011, carrying 4 adult men and all their fishing gear on a 2000 mile round trip from Indiana into northwest Ontario, averaged 17.8 mpg driving 65 to 75 mph except in Ontario where you can only drive 50 to 55 mph.
On highway (not towing) it will average 19 to 21 mpg depending on head winds.
Towing our Redwood 36RL, it will average 9.5 to 10.5 mpg driving at 60 mph. I have towed our RW about 11,000 miles.
The truck is stock.

Have a Chevy Duramax Allison with 111,000. Don't plan on replacing it soon. Have had Chevy's and Fords previously. Haven't had a Dodge because didn't find one that met my needs at the time. Have pulled with a truck that had the Cummins 5.9 in it though. I have never been brand specific and don't ever plan to be. It'll be the one that meets my needs best.

Fredtp, we came out of a 2008 SW Dodge Cummins. Pulled our RW 36RL effortlessly. On our last trip in this truck from Destin FL to Memphis TN to Branson MO and back to Holly Lake Ranch, TX we averaged 10.5 to 12 miles per gal not running biodiesel. Biodiesel knocked our mileage down to about 9.5 miles per gal. Recently purchased 2014 Ram Super Duty Dully. First trip out to Fredricksberg, TX during Christmas with less than 6000 miles on the truck, averaged 8.5 to 9 miles per gal not running biodiesel. Our April trip to Gulf Shores, AL and back home to HLR, TX with over 8000 miles on the truck averaged 12 to 13.4 miles to gal. Ever since the truck broke the 6000 mile ceiling it has averaged 16 to 17.4 miles per gallon running solo. No complaints with the 850 lb tq Cummins Diesel at all. Have been told that once the truck reaches 12000 to 15000 miles the mileage will improve more. As I always say, "I don't drive a Dodge, I drive a Cummins, Dodge just happens to be wrapped around it."

Well I traded yesterday for a 2014 Dodge. Got the regular six speed auto with 800 ft lbs of TQ, hope it will do alright. Got my B&W Companion on order.

Fantastic. That sounds like a great combination. Let us know how it works out for you.
I purchased my Dodge RAM because I have very good relationship with my dealer and service shop for for the past 35 years. I narrowed my hitch selection down to Pullrite and B&W because I liked their designs the best.
Good Luck

I would Like to have a new Dodge but only got 50k miles on mine. I got a custom program for the computer and she will pull real hard through the mountains. I get 10 mpg @ 60 mph in the mountains and 11 - 12 @ 70 mph normal roads. I did try driving at 55 and got 13 but way to slow. The truck likes running at 70 just a nice RPM "sweet" spot. I have the last of the 5.9 I didn't want a "pollution controlled" truck but must say the new 14/15 dodge sure got their act together!! want one want one

Dodge Dually
Got my 2014 Dodge 3500 Dually last month and love it. Getting 11mpg towing and 16 around town. Expecting 20 MPG on the Hwy . Tows like a champ. Upgraded to dually from 2010 Dodge 2500 srw. A lot more stable and peace of mind.

Our Ram crew cab dually has arrived - very exciting. But it leaves again on Wednesday for upfitting with its Knapheide low-profile utility bed. They're still trying to get some answers from Reese and H&W regarding a hitch. Because of the more narrow frame of the cab-chassis configuration, as compared to the standard pickup box frame width, special L-brackets would have to be fabricated to make the window box undercarriage frame work ... And Reese says that will void any warranty. Of course, since they still don't make the brackets for the standard pickup bed for a 2014-15, I guess that voids Reese anyway. Tomorrow we talk with B&W to see how they can help. You'd think I was trying to reinvent the wheel here, but it will all get done. Since I was working at Cornell this weekend (a book signing and photo shoot for our next book project), I scooted up to Rochester to visit our 38 GK at the dealer. I had a pleasant surprise when I looked at the tires - they're Goodyears, rated G, and I'm guessing that means it may have the 8K axels. The dealer will look up the build sheet to make sure. Since we bought it at last year's Hershey show, it came with what it comes with, but if I'd ordered one I'd have ordered the beefier axels. I sure hope my hoped-for upgrade is real. Dealer has almost compleated my mods (different toilet, in-line surge suppressor, platform instead of European springs for our Sleep Number mattress, etc.). It's been outside since last September, and no visible leaks! Pickup will be as soon as the truck has put on his body and hitch. Tick, tick, tick...
