New Truck

Thinking about trading for a new dually. Anybody driving a Ford F450? Curious is the 450 is overkill and too rough a ride compared to the F350.

Just a note, the F350 now has a "wide-track" option that gives you the wider front axle like the F450 for a tighter turning radius, and it comes with the front fender and bumper flares. However, it does bump your rear end gear ratio down to 4.30.

My F350 dually has more than enough capacity for the Redwood, but certainly can't get too big a truck

Yes! If I was going to buy another truck for towing I would go to the F450. The F450 actually rides better than the 350 due to the extra weight.

It might be an overkill for the Redwood, but what's the next trailer weigh? Only downside I see is the 430 differential which would require slower driving due to mpg. I do like the larger tires and wheels on the F450......very nice.

Another note: you need to check with your insurance carrier a F-450 here will cost you twice as much as a F-350. A F-450 here is a commercial vehicle.

Had the 350 and now a 450. Ride is better and once I put in the upgrades exhaust, turbos and tuner pulls ours like it's not even there. Would not go back

Well i skipped all the exhaust upgrades tuners, etc and it pulls like it is not behind me. I guess all the upgrade thing is a Ford thing!

I believe the new stock f450 is putting out as much horse power and torque as my truck did with all my modifications. It's got almost too much power (900ft pds/480hp)

In traffic I really miss that tonque to weight ratio that I had with the "Beast"

Here is a link to 3 1 ton duallys pulling 12,000# on 7% grade for 3 miles. Pretty fair comparison. Almost 24 minutes long. But they compare interiors and opinions on these and give the time for each test portion of the comparison.

I had to shut if off within 3 minutes when I saw him point to the GVWR to indicate how much weight they were towing. If they are that dumb to start, I figured the outcome would be just as phony.

I stated in my post that all 3 were towing 12,000#

No where near our Redwoods are at but all towed the same weight for the same 3 mile stretch of 7% road

But they aren't. That Crusader has a GVWR of 12057 lbs, but I'm sure it was empty so closer to 9,500, and no way that Montana High Country weighs 12,000 empty, but probably heavier than the Crusader.

Nothing kills a comparison test faster than injecting guesswork over fact. They should have just weighed them. And why different trailers if you are comparing trucks? Entertaining maybe, but no factual value.

Haven't watched the video but I'm guessing by some of the reactions that the wrong truck (Ford) came in last.

There have been several of these tests comparing these trucks. It is interesting to watch these tests. I believe that all three of these trucks are great trucks. it is just a matter of what one likes. I ended up liking a Chevy. Love the way it looks, options, performance, and the great deal I got on it. It does a great job handling my RW.

As Danrn said above, they are all great trucks. Any of the three will happily tow a Redwood when properly sized and equipped. It comes down to $$ and which features and brand you like.
In my case, I had always been a GM person. When I went looking for a larger truck to replace my 2006 Denali Pickup, I went to a GM dealers first. Won't even go into it, but prices were crazy and they both tried to steal my truck. Looked at Dodge but wasn't much better in the $$ world. Said, oh well, let's look at a Ford since they tout their towing ability. Gotta tell you - the Super Duty may be getting a bit dated in styling and features compared to the other two but for the money .......

When I bought it, the final pricing was almost $13k less than I could have gotten a GM or Dodge for in this area. I have no complaints with this truck. It just turned 36k mile and had the RW behind it for more than 16k of them. The only thing it has seen the dealer for is maintenance . When towing, the truck is smarter than I am.

So how about we all agree that everyone has a great truck that they love and we all have what we have because we like it. Nuff said and let's put the truck wars to bed.

Vaughan,
The 2017 Super Duty will be a completely new truck from the frame up.

I don't know, I only watched 3 minutes and shut it off I couldn't care less what the results were because they started off with bad info.
