Roadside Assistance
Well,
If you ever need to get some reviews on roadside assistance, I've had them all!!! And it seems it is my "Destiny" to have every RV I've ever owned towed. Interesting, every one was the last day of our trip, and everyone in CO within a few hours of home - (one actually at home when I pulled in the garage).
Today - 18 miles from home after a two week flawless journey - I'm on the side of the road dead. Colorado Rockies traffic, all lanes full, I come across a tire remnant and no room to ovoid it. I missed it with the front, and I heard a low thump in the back knowing either the back axle or Jeep caught it. Within 60 seconds, "LOW COOLANT" followed by "CHECK ENGINE" and I can't pull over because the outer lanes are <13' clearance in my path on I-25. Another 30 seconds and "STOP NOW" and it shut down for me right in front of the Bronco's Stadium. The tire remnant broke a coolant line that goes to the exhaust filter to cool down the DEF process, and that little $12 plastic part shut me right down on a Sunday with nothing to do but get it towed. (Good Sam picked up the bill by the way - excellent service).

Oh my, that sucks. Very nice looking rig, even when on the hook. Every time we pull the Redwood I wonder if this will be the time we get stranded.

I have 182,000 miles on my tow vehicle. I am more worried what I am towing breaking down, then I am about my truck breaking down.

Of the 4 above, three were my fault. (putting gas in the diesel, catching the fuel line on the compressor, and running over a tire). The only one I can call a breakdown as the blue Expedition that lost the transmission at 100,000 miles of a hard life.

I know you have upgraded........ a lot from your redwood, but it is definitely nice seeing you here on the form again. You have shared a small mountain of information with us here. I just wanted to thank you, among many others that have made this place a great forum.

The part I missed most about your absence is being able to point out that 3 of those 4 being hauled off are FORDS!!

Funny you mention Good Sam Road Assistance, as today, in the mail, they sent me 1-years free membership. Hope I don't have to use it, but will be comforting I have it. Will I renew...most likely.

You too ?!?
must be Colorado !!!
while we LOVED Durango and Colorado Springs,
we got to meet a GREAT mobile mechanic in both cities
Good Sam just infuriated me in both cases, so I paid out of pocket when the slide motor failed... but now I know very well how to do them manually!
(and now know why so many people visit there and then stay !)
Garden of the Gods and then
our rv sites in Durango !

You might have missed the part that all of these were "my" cars, and you won't ever see a GM product with my license plates on it. You never have to tow what you will never own.

John- Glad you enjoyed CO!! Sorry to hear about the mech issues. Was your frustration with Good Sam Warranty or Roadside?
The GS Roadside did well for us - she went anywhere from trying to get us a mobile repair (but they didn't have the part) to towing us to a local Wal-Mart until Monday when the mobile repair could get the part, to finally just towing us in to Freightliner. PS, none of the Denver Wal-Marts allow RVs, mainly because of the limited space. She even called local shopping malls to ask if it could go there. I told her if the Broncos were playing, I'd be willing to stay right where we are and get the awning out .
As for Warranty, I have no experience........yet. This one was road hazard so if the cost is too high I guess I can call my insurance.
