Well, darn. I just got our new 31SL with the Tri Glide and thought (being a former travel trailer guy who knows next to nothing about fivers) that I was getting a really nice pin box. After reading this thread and many others on other forums, I am quite apprehensive about towing with the Tri Glide. I have only towed it home from the dealer so far, but I could hear the slamming described by many others. And to add insult to injury, I see that the Tri Glide has been taken off the market and I have an orphan pin box on a new ( built 8 or 9 month ago) rig. I plan on talking to the service manager at the dealer and see what he says.

New lower jaw

Just traveled with about 1400 miles with the new lower jaw. Best tow we've ever had.

Which 31SL did you get (what dealer)? I shopped all of the 31SL's in Texas for about 5 months, and actually looked at a few of them. We finally bought the one that was at ExploreUSA in Seguin. I told them about the Tri Glide, and fortunately they had Redwood swap it to a Flex Glide. Unfortunately the air bag has a slow leak...so now I have to track that down or take it back in .

Unless by some off chance th he air bag has a hole/crack leaking it has to be the fitting on top, remove & add Teflon tape & tighten back. The air bag is the same as Firestone uses on the RideRite truck system & it & the shock can be odered from Firestone. Mine will lose 3-10 lbs if it sits for a while, but there's not much volume so temperature affects it quite a bit.

Shrode, we got ours from Explore USA in Alvin. I thought about going to Seguin but never made it. I am going to see if they will do something about the tri glide.
I'll have to get a signature line organized before long.

First call Lippert before the dealer. They'll tell you it's a warranty item, they never asked for year make or model of the RW. They'll ship to any dealer and pay for one hour of labor.
Mine was replaced at the end of last season. I towed around 50 miles to the storage facility. It was the best tow I've had in three years.
Having said that yesterday I towed 250 miles though I don't miss the banging and it was a much better tow. There were other problems noted on a really rough road. I still love this better than the old pin box.

We towed about 200 miles last weekend with the new lower Jaw. It was so good to not hear the banging and slamming like before. I did not really notice any difference other than that. We have a long trip planed this summer that will be the true test of how well it works.

What I believe I noticed as a difference. on a rough road it felt like the F350 on a hard top road with no weight in the back. A constant vibration even after we got onto the better road.
A rough spot felt like it vibrated for longer than it should have.
After reliving the kidneys the ride felt better.

Hi Foxfire & RWJSIM, In April of this year I bought a used 2014 Redwood 36RL. I have the Tri Glide as well, but so far only towed it 4 times. Didn't hear any clanking noises, but I live in Florida and have the windows closed and AC running while towing. After reading all of the posts, I called Lippert to see if I could get a new lower jaw, and after sending them the information on my 2014 36RL, I have a new lower jaw arriving next week. I also ordered a new air bag and shock from etrailer.com. To add insult to injury, I discovered that etrailer has a locking plate for the Tri Glide to keep it moving back and forth. That's another option to look into. Thanks guys!

Sorry, I meant to say that the locking plate keeps it from moving back and forth.

I think that plate is for use with the Demco Hi Jacker hitch.

You wont need that part. The lower plate on the bottom of the replacement that you are receiving from Lippert is welded solid. I used the same Shock and Airbag all went back together easily. It was heavy but I had access to a forklift and second set of hands. Very happy with the replacement so far.

Replacing the lower jaw is the way to go. Keeping the pin box all Lippert seems to be a good idea. I did mine because it was basically falling apart. Mine broke in year number 2 and lippert replaced the part at no cost.

It is quite easy to do. I had 2 people to help me, and we had a pile of pallets to take the weight off. Lippert had a guide to replace the jaw you are going to use with a triglide, so the directions were clear as the installation is the same. I can't recall exactly which direction it (fore or aft) it needs to move to remove it, but you will find outas you go.

I have a brand new Flex Air I will be happy to sell to anyone who can use it. Dealer just replaced it. I am heading to Moryde for IS install Monday and am having them install a Moryde pin box too.

MSFSmith57, Did Lippert charge you for the lower jaw?
