Tri-Glide pin box broken

Greetings,
I haven't posted in a long time; however, now I have a serious problem & would like to know how many of you have had the same problem.

I have a 2013 36RL pulled with a 2011 3500 Chevy dually diesel long bed.

6/4/2014 I had a standard Trail Air pin box that was"slamming" very hard when stopping or starting out. The horizontal pins in the lower jaw had broken. The Lippert service guy, Dan Collins, said "do not hitch up & try to pull it, it is very dangerous." Lippert sent a TRi-Glide lower jaw which was installed by a mobile service company.

Now, 10/5/2014, it is "slamming" again & the lower plate so loose I can easily move with one hand. I called Crossroads & Lippert again & they are "evaluating" the photos I emailed to them.

Please respond ASAP with experiences, suggestions, etc.

Marlindy

Hmmm, no idea? We've been running for 2 years with no problems with the hitch.

This is the first I've heard of something like this as well. The lower plate on mine can be moved pretty easily by hand as well, but I suspect that's just how it operates. It tends to slam back and forth, but when hitched up I don't notice it operating like that.

Every once in a great while I will hear mine (Tri-glide) slam, but usually after I just did a heavy stop.

I can move my plate, but not easily.

A little grease has been recommended on some - but not much or it will come out inside and leave a mess.

As AA said, I'll bet there is no grease in yours...
mine had none either (or if any, very little) once I pumped up all 9 zerk fittings it seemed to dampen the forward and back movement...

good luck !

Marlindy here, I didn't mention in my original post is that both times the upper part was rubbing against the lower plate & has gouged out both surfaces about 1/4 " so far.

Agree on Lippert looking at it. Mine is like Johnboys, noisy if not greased but then fine if it is.
