Is there an easy way to turn off automatic notifications?

I seem to get notifications of any updates on any threads that I post to. I know at the bottom of the screen when you're posting you have the option as to which notification to receive. However it seems that by default I get notifications. I'd like to not get them unless I change the option but can't quite figure out how to make that happen.

There are a couple of ways that I know of...
If you want to eliminate future notices on a particular thread go to the bottom of a notification and click the link to cancel the notices.
If you want to eliminate ALL notifications [you can still subscribe to an individual thread], click User CP on the upper left, then click Edit Options on the left under Settings & Options. In the Messaging & Notification section there is a Default Thread Subscription Mode section, choose either Do not subscribe OR No email notification

That should do it.
